The Greatest Painting of All Time
The Eternal and Infinite Universe 1994 is one painting (though on the image page there are 4 photos of it, showing how its appearance seems to magically change with mood and time (like the four seasons)).
I claim for it the description of the greatest of all time because 1) it is literally about all time i.e. an infinite eternal multiverse (which covers all conceivable times) and 2) It represents a unique achievement in the whole history of art and/or cosmology. It has a text, encapsulating a theory that predicted the most unexpected observation, that the cosmos is accelerating apart. More on that in the other blog post, Cosmic Acceleration.
It measures approx. 100 by 120 cms. and is painted in oils on wood. It was first exhibited in a group show, The New Wave, in The Jelly Leg'd Chicken gallery in Reading, Berkshire, UK in January 1995 and priced then at £7 million. The universe approved with observations later confirming an accelerating expansion (from 1998).
More talk on this painting in the Jan 2 2018 post (though I could refer to a Cezanne quote for now: "There is nothing to be said about art.'
