The New Era - with an astrological narrative

Your hand is on my knee, darling

Even those who scorn the ancient ageless pseudo-science of astrology may see that there is presently a great narrative in the stars for the changes that are going on right now.

Among the ‘fixed stars’, there are a few that are considered quite powerful, and among these Regulus, the ruler, by name alone, probably stands out as the most powerful, or the most concerned with power.

But in the next millennium, starting around now, we may consider changing its name to Regula, the ‘ruless’. That’s because Regulus has moved from a ‘masculine’ zodiac sign, Leo, to a ‘feminine’ one, Virgo.

The narrative does not just mean a shift in power towards the feminine, but a sea change in the nature of society as well. Obviously, Regulus would have felt very comfortable and confident in the sign of Leo, the king of the jungle, but according to astrology change must happen, and even fixed stars must move on, albeit very slowly. So when a fixed star changes sign it marks a new era.

The zodiac of signs, being a precise structure that does not properly represent the random distribution of the celestial background, can only be reasonably considered as an imprint, ergo something that we are ‘influenced by’ for evolutionary reasons, by tacit agreement. Accordingly, in the flow of time, the sequence of signs/influences has an order that is beneficial to life. The function of each sign is to start anew and change the direction of the previous one, to specifically correct the errors and indulgences of the previous influence. And this seems especially so with the movement from Leo to Virgo, for Leo can be an indulgent (self) praising sign, whilst Virgo is one of criticism and modesty.

Here are some of the keywords we may associate with power of a Leo flavour.

Patriarchy, hierarchy, regality, privilege, class, dominance, superiority, bravery, heroism, honour, nobility, need for adoration and praise, attention, warmth, generosity, magnanimousness, liking for harmony and happiness, success, enthusiasm, celebrity, assumption, creativity, procreation, affairs, risk taking, gambling, confidence, charisma, force of nature, boyishness, brilliance, star quality, leisure, play.

The challenge for Leo is to achieve harmony and responsibility, to blend the passionate nature, the ambition with a sense of heroic nobility and honour.

But over a long period of time a certain influence can become stale and aberrations build up. The aberrations tend to become dark secrets (12th house) that have to be exposed (1st house) in the new era.

Virgo’s power to overcome the Leo era comes from being observant; an anti-romantic critical observance that does not wear rose-tinted specks / has no wool over the eyes to protect from the brilliance. A detailed observance that is very effective (but not quite the same as seeing/and understanding) but comes with the paradox that it seems easier to observe others than observe oneself, ergo one’s critical observations can have an element of hypocrisy – or we get used to a culture in which everyone learns / adapts by criticizing each other.

With Virgo we have the sign to clean and tidy up after the mess of a Leo era. The sign of practicality, work, the common people, virtue, pragmatism. The inflated over confidence of a Leo era is most capably brought down by Virgo’s no nonsense business-like criticism. Perhaps a marked contrast comes from the approach to relationships, for Leo is part animal passion, fire, risk, the joy of romance or the need for loyalty and adoration to support a privileged position.

Virgo is analytical and naturally opposed to all that, and that may make the established patterns of previous relationships difficult and disharmonious.

Virgo is cool, impartial and a good talker (mercury association), so (those secret 12th house) things will now be talked about, somewhat analytically, or dispassionately, as we all adapt to a new era.
